This rug is an old Japanese futon(bed cover rug).
It was originally made by sewing together many hand-woven indigo-dyed cotton lengths about 11 inches wide, which were used for kimonos in Nagano prefecture.
After sewing them together, the entire surface is stitched as reinforcement. They are also stunning from a decorative point of view.
It has been used for a long time and washed repeatedly, so it is soft to the touch.
