This is a katazome indigo-dyed cotton fragment.  The indigo-dyed faded colors are very beautiful.
 
Katazome is a Japanese technique of stencil resist dyeing that involves drawing rice-paste designs on cloth, dyeing the cloth, and then washing off the paste.
