This kimono is woven from very old ramie. Considered a girl's ceremonial kimono. The beautiful yellow color was probably dyed with turmeric or karian.
The crane, turtle, and pine tree patterns are dyed with katazome (stencil dyeing), and the more delicate patterns are hand-drawn. All of these designs have long been considered auspicious in Japan.
They were very fine kimonos and were cut in the homes of the nobility who had a high threshold.
It is a light, high-quality fabric about 100 years old, so it has some damage and faded.
